çalis beach is the main beach area for Fethiye. It stretches for over 4kms with a promenade flanked by the beach on one side and numerous Hotels, restaurants and café/bars on the other. The afternoons see a strong cooling breeze spring up just when it is the hottest part of the day – great for windsurfers or kiteboards. Access into Fethiye town is by water taxi (Dolmus boat) which runs every 30 minutes and entails a beautiful trip across the bay for around £1. By road you can catch a minibus (Dolmus) which leaves every few minutes, for a few pence. There are plenty of shops here and even a nightclub or two.
Fethiye is a lively Turkish town of around 100,000 inhabitants. Once a Lycian City where traces of the ancient settlement can be found around the town including the magnificent rock tombs on the face of the cliff. The town has area called Paspatur which is a bazaar area catering for the needs of all tourists with real atmosphere. The main street and all side streets are full of big and small traders in everything you can possibly imagine. Right in the centre of town is a combined permanent fish, fruit and veg market where the bargains are incredible. You can buy your fish from the market and one of the surrounding restaurants will create a delicious meal for you at a |
